Brian J. Patterson
Brian J. Patterson is a corporate attorney and a member of the Bars of Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and British Columbia, Canada. He has been practicing in offshore jurisdictions since 1996, specializing in re/insurance and international corporate and commercial transactions.
Born in Bermuda, Mr. Patterson graduated with an LLB from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 1995. He completed his articles in Vancouver and Toronto and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1996. He returned to Bermuda, where he worked primarily on corporate and commercial matters for re/insurance companies, including incorporation and registration of operating and holding companies, contract review and drafting, corporate administration management, board and meeting management, mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and dis/continuations.
Formerly general counsel for Catlin Insurance Company Ltd. in Bermuda, Mr. Patterson managed the company’s corporate governance and U.S. regulatory status, including obtaining and maintaining the full suite of U.S. state excess and surplus lines eligibilities for several company affiliates. He also worked with the London-based Group General Counsel on Lloyds and U.K. regulatory and corporate issues.
